Suspected clogged pores

I am unable to print a black-ink document from my printer; only a blank sheet of paper emerges.

In copying, the color comes out pale and incorrect.

At one point the printer status report showed ink in all cartridges but printed in broken type. I changed the black ink cartridge but had no success either in either printing or copying. The latest printer status report came out blank except for a few magenta smudges.

I turned off the printer for a few minutes and then re-booted, but without success. I took a can of compressed air and attempted to blow out any ports that might have become blocked by congealed ink; again, no success.

I suspect that the ink might have clogged the orifices through which it must pass in order to print. Is this a possibility? If so, is there a product I might buy to clear any clogs?

If this assumption is incorrect, what do you think appears to be the problem?

For the record, all inks are HP.

  Thank you very much.
