I purchased and installed my new HP ENVY Photo 7858 printer and thought everything was running well. I was able to print wirelessly. Then I noticed that my internet was lagging or was lost all together (both wired and wireless). A technician from the cable company came out and said it sounded like a DoS attack. A quick check of my modem's log confirmed his suspicions. He recommened getting a new router since the MAC address of my current router had been compromised. I was getting thousands of pings daily.
My router is a Netgear Nighthawk DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem Router, Model C7000.
After a little more troubleshooting, I traced the source of the attacks. It was the IP addess of my newly installed HP ENVY Photo 7858 printer. I immediatley unplugged the printer and the DoS attacks stopped. It has been unplugged for about two weeks. To confirm my thoughts, I plugged in my printer tonight (I really needed to use it) and immediately lost my internet. A check of my router log showed...

I have searched the web and tried the below suggestions.
I have turned off e-Print on the printer with no positive effect.
I have turned off WiFi Direct on the printer with no positive effect.
I have turned off UPnP on the Netgear router with no positive effect.
Any thoughts or should I take the printer back to the store?
