Privacy question about new "HP Connected" service

I have an HP Photosmart D110 and have been happily using the ePrintCenter feature for a few years. I received an email though today from HP stating, "An upgrade from your HP ePrintCenter account is required." Apparently I have to "upgrade" to the "HP Connected" service, which requires agreeing to the following:

"HP will utilize your site usage information, data from your printer and automatic data collection tools to provide features and services and a personalized experience and recommendation."

and

"HP may also collect information when you access our ePrint service including the unique device identifier of your printer, the originating email address and subject line of messages sent to your device, as well as the specifications of documents you print including file size, file type, file name, time stamp, number of pages or copies, and which print software application generated the printed file (if applicable)."

Now, I'd rather not have HP sorting through the files I print so that they can try to sell me a bunch of stuff I don't want, so I want to be able to completely opt out of this sort of data gathering. So, here are my questions:

1. If I register with the new "HP Connected" service, can I opt out of *all* such data collection?

2. If not, and if I don't "upgrade" to the new service, will the old service (emailing to ...@hpeprint.com) stop working in the near future?

If this is a *required* upgrade with no opt-out provision, this is problematic. Unlike a free service (Google, Facebook, etc.) that is run on revenue from ad placement, this is a supported feature of a product that I purchased. I can't simply "use another service" without discarding a perfectly-functional piece of hardware that I paid for.

So, how can I  continue to use this feature of the HP Photosmart D110 without giving HP free access to all of my printing for advertising purposes?

Thank you!

Chris
