password protected pdf won't print from ipad or iphone but acrobat properties show printing allowed

I can print certain pdfs from my computer but cannot print from ipad or iphone using hp e-print app.  I get an error saying password protected pdfs are not supported.  But when I go to the website and open with Acrobat to view file properties, it says the document is protected from editing, but not protected for printing.  Is that because e-print is not just printing but also opening the file to edit and then print in a rehashed format?  This is a nuisance restriction and is very inconvenient.
